Dr. Sheets and her entire team believe that caring for your smile is one of the most important factors in promoting good health. Your overall dental health and wellness are always the top priority. Below is a list of Restorative Procedures offered in our practice. Please select a procedure to learn more.
Crowns and Bridges
Crowns (or caps) are dental restorations that are placed over a tooth when conservative restorations are insufficient to restore form and function. A bridge serves to replace a missing tooth or teeth. One type of bridge consists of crowns placed on either side of the missing tooth to connect the replacement tooth or teeth to them. Another type of bridge consists of the replacement tooth attached to the adjacent teeth with wing-like appendages. Bridges can also be supported by dental implants. Crowns and bridges can be made entirely of tooth-colored material, metal, or a combination to provide optimal aesthetics. Some metal-free crowns and bridges incorporate stress-bearing materials to enhance their strength and wear-resistance. Natural-looking crowns and bridges can be an ideal solution to replace or support missing or serious damaged teeth.
Inlays/Onlays
Inlays and onlays are indirect dental restorations that reinforce an existing tooth that is too damaged to support a filling, but not damaged enough to require a crown. Inlays and onlays are known as indirect fillings because unlike a standard filling, both are made in a laboratory and cemented or bonded to the surface of the tooth during a second visit. Unlike standard fillings, inlays and onlays do not weaken the tooth structure, but actually strengthen it. After the procedure the tooth can bear up to 50 - 75% more chewing force.
Because both are fabricated in a dental laboratory, it usually takes two or more appointments to restore a tooth with a porcelain inlay or onlay.
Periodontal Treatment
Treating periodontal problems will help you achieve a healthy mouth and help prevent tooth loss. In fact, with prompt treatment, proper home care, and regular dental visits, a great majority of patients can keep their teeth for a lifetime.
After evaluating your periodontal health, Dr. Sheets will work with you to determine the treatment options that best meet your needs. If periodontal disease is your problem, the treatment can vary widely depending on how far the disease has progressed. If caught in the early stages, simple procedures are done that will remove the plaque and calculus from below the gum line and disrupt the infection-causing bacteria. If the disease has advanced to the point where the periodontal pockets are deep and the supporting bone is lost, further treatment might be necessary.
Tooth Colored Fillings
Dark and unattractive old crowns can make you feel self-conscious when you smile. A porcelain filling replaces old, unsightly mercury fillings and eliminates the discoloration that the metallic solutions left behind. The porcelain holds the tooth structure together, strengthening the teeth.
Porcelain fillings offer patients metal-free dentistry, which allows light to flow through and reflect off the teeth, leaving a more natural smile.
Temporomandibular Joint Disorder(TMD)
Over 50 million Americans annually have headaches so severe that they seek medical help. Most of these people state that their head pain is a disruptive force in their daily lives. The majority of these patients suffer from Temporomandibular Joint Disorder(TMD).
TMD is a group of separate but related disorders of the temporomandibular joint and all the associated muscles, ligaments, nerves, etc. Unfortunately, TMD's are the most frequently misdiagnosed of the medical/dental conditions.
After a thorough examination and appropriate x-rays, Dr. Sheets will help to identify the source of the discomfort. She will then recommend what type of treatment is needed for your condition and begin moving forward with a step by step process.
Sports Guards
If you or your child play sports, Dr. Sheets may recommend a sports guard to protect against damage to your teeth. These guards can be customized not only related to factors associated with your anatomy but also in some cases according to the type of sport that you will be participating in.
Smile Design/Veneers
When designing your ideal smile we can assure you that your concerns will be included in every step of the process. Porcelain veneers are a beautiful way to correct discolored, worn, chipped, or misaligned teeth. Veneers are thin, custom-made shells crafted of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front side of teeth.
There are many benefits and advantages to having porcelain veneers placed on your teeth. One is that only a small amount of tooth structure is removed during the procedure resulting in a healthy “natural” look with little or no discomfort during the procedure.
Dr. Sheets can finally provide you with the bright, straight, and natural looking smile you have always desired.
